      <image:title>Manual Lymphatic Drainage - How it works</image:title>
<image:caption>MLD is a gentle hands-on manual therapeutic technique applied with light alternating pressure and with slow rhythmic movement. The direction of the push-pressure follows the direction of the efferent lymph vessels of the skin. MLD causes an increase in lymph re-absorption, an increased fluid flow, and an acceleration of the filling and emptying of the lymph capillaries. This reduces swelling, innervates the nervous system to reduce stress and increase well being, improves the immune system and reduces inflammatory pain.</image:caption>

<image:title>Manual Lymphatic Drainage - Precautions we may take Manual lymphatic drainage lowers blood pressure. To manage this we use shorter treatment times and smaller treatment areas initially for patients with existing low blood pressure problems. Asthma patients must always have their inhaler with them but can be safely treated during an attack-free interval.</image:title>

<image:title>Manual Lymphatic Drainage - When not to use MLD</image:title>
<image:caption>Manual lymphatic drainage may not be used in patients with certain disorders. These include: Malignant diseases that have not been treated, excluding palliative treatment Acute inflammation - i.e. swelling caused by foreign bodies such as virus, bacteria, fungi, chemicals etc. Acute allergies such as those caused by pollen, or certain foods as MLD may aggravate the condition Acute deep vein thrombosis Cardiac insufficiency - we cannot treat swollen feet, ankles or calves caused by heart issues</image:caption>

<image:title>Low Level Laser Therapy - Let there be light</image:title>
<image:caption>Photobiomodulation, (previously called low-level laser therapy), refers to the treatment of various conditions using a laser to effect a photo-chemical reaction at a cellular level. The laser infrared light penetrates into tissue where it is absorbed by cells and converted into energy that influences the course of metabolic processes. Low level laser therapy does NOT heat tissue. Laser therapy is recognised and used worldwide for the treatment of numerous injuries in humans and animals.</image:caption>

<image:title>Low Level Laser Therapy - Benefits of Low Level Laser Laser therapy enables the restoration of lymphatic drainage due to stimulation of new lymphatic pathways. This happens through a reduction of fibrosis and scarring of tissues. It enables the reduction in tissue fluid accumulation through changes in blood flow, either directly via an effect on the blood vessels or by neural regulation of vessels in the limb. Low Level Laser is extensively used to promote wound healing, oral mucositis, muscular /skeletal pain relief and as treatment for a wide variety of other conditions.</image:title>

<image:caption>The LTU-904 is an infrared laser operating at a wavelength of 904 nanometers. This invisible wavelength penetrates up to 2cms into tissue. The unit is a hand-held, battery powered, treatment device, is non thermal and delivers a controlled series of 200ns bursts of pulses of 904nm laser beam. This is in the near infrared spectrum that is invisible to the human eye.</image:caption>

<image:title>Medical Taping - How does medical taping help with lymphatic drainage?</image:title>
<image:caption>When lymphatic tape is applied to an inflamed or swollen area, the lifting motion of the tape creates a space between the top layer of skin and the underlying tissues. This space creates a pressure gradient between this area and the surrounding tissues that allows fluids to move into the lymphatic vessels and be eliminated from the body. In addition, enhanced muscle activation increases the muscle pump pushing more fluid through the lymphatic vessels. The result? Swelling goes down, pain is relieved, and the healing process is accelerated. If appropriate, lymphatic tape may be applied after treatment to the oedematous area to assist with pain and swelling reduction and to improve injury related bruising.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Lymphatic System - What is it?</image:title>
<image:caption>The lymphatic system is a system of thin tubes and lymph nodes that run throughout the body. These tubes are called lymphatic vessels and work as a drainage system. They absorb and remove debris that are too large to enter the venous system. The lymph vessels transport this fluid via lymph nodes which act as filters. Vessels join bigger collectors and follow lymphatic pathways to finally drain back into the subclavian vein. This junction is located above the collarbone. The fluid called lymph joins the bloodstream where it is finally expelled as gas waste from the lungs.</image:caption>

<image:title>Lymphatic System - Why do we need it?</image:title>
<image:caption>This effective drainage system prevents fluid from building up, stagnating and causing swelling in our body. The lymph system is also an important part of our immune system. It plays a role in fighting bacteria and other infections and destroying old or abnormal cells. The body’s defense cells are located in our lymph nodes. These lymphocytes, when sensitized by infectious antigens, either act directly on the antigen or become plasma cells and form antibodies.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5ec70b02e951f44be02fed83/1590124638127-2ZBI3QZT8K1ICHSC8QG4/image-asset.jpeg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Lymphatic System - What happens when there’s no flow?</image:title>
<image:caption>Initially, when the lymphatics are damaged, there is a backup of fluid in the tissue. At first, this build-up of plasma, protein, lipids and cells may not cause any symptoms. Eventually, the body responds to the abnormal backlog of lymph with swelling. This inflammatory process will continue unless action is taken to find a way to get rid of the excess lymph. Lymphatic injury can modify immune responses and lead to increased fatigue, slow wound healing, digestive problems and general sluggishness.</image:caption>

<image:title>COVID19 - Golden rules for Alert Level 1</image:title>
<image:caption>1. If you’re sick, stay home. 2. If you have cold or flu symptoms call your doctor or Healthline and make sure you get tested. 3. Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands. 4. Sneeze and cough into your elbow, and regularly disinfect shared surfaces. 5. If you are told by health authorities to self-isolate you must do so immediately. 6. If you’re concerned about your wellbeing or have underlying health conditions, work with your GP to understand how best to stay healthy. 7. Keep track of where you’ve been and who you’ve seen to help contact tracing if needed. Use the NZ COVID Tracer app as a handy way of doing this. 8. Businesses should help people keep track of their movements by displaying the Ministry of Health QR Code for contact tracing. 9. Stay vigilant. There is still a global pandemic going on. People and businesses should be prepared to act fast to step up Alert Levels if we have to. 10. People will have had different experiences over the last couple of months. Whatever you’re feeling — it’s okay. Be kind to others. Be kind to yourself.</image:caption>
